The Southampton Town Board is expected to adopt the Shinnecock Hills Moratorium tomorrow, following a scheduled public hearing. The move is an effort to save the Southampton College campus from development. Supervisor Patrick Heaney introduced the proposed law to thwart Long Island University, which owns the campus, from putting it on the market. For 12 months, subdivision on the 110-acre campus and surrounding areas has been suspended.
In the meantime, the town will conduct yet another area study with community involvement to determine what kind of development would best compliment the area.
