The controversial proposal to build a new library on the outskirts of Sag Harbor Village is coming to a head. Voters will be asked to approve an $8.5 million bond to fund the project next Tuesday — or maybe not.

At issue is the plan to move the basic operations from the historic library on Main Street to a new building near Mashashimuet Park. The Sag Harbor Future Fund and other opponents want to expand the present structure and explore the possibility of buying neighboring property.
