Mattituck-Cutchogue rejected its $28,621,089 budget, 1,294 to 1,224, in a record turnout. The spending plan included a 6.96 percent increase in spending, and a 6.71 percent hike in the tax rate. Now, the district must operate under a contingency budget of $27,629,139 that will increase spending 3.25 percent and the tax rate 3.24 percent. An additional $991,000 will be cut in such areas as staffing, sports and cultural arts. Class sizes also could be increased.
